ALL OF OUR SCHEDULED KEEPER TALKS AND PHOTO OPS ARE NOW BACK!!!!

However, it is in everyone's interest to maintain social distancing and good hygiene.

Hand sanitising stations are located throughout the zoo and hand washing facilities are available at the Zebra paddock and in the toilet blocks.

VISITOR INFORMATION

 The Darling Downs Zoo is open to visitors every day of the year except Christmas Day.       

The zoo opens at 9am. Last admissions are at 3pm. The gates close at 4pm.

THE ZOO IS IN A RURAL AREA OF QUEENSLAND.  OUR PATHS ARE COUNTRY PATHS.  

IT CAN BE HOT HERE IN THE SUMMER AND COLD IN THE WINTER!

We provide free sunscreen and fly spray for your convenience.

The zoo may close early on days of extreme weather conditions out of consideration for human and animal welfare and safety.  If it is a very hot, wet or stormy day it may pay to contact us in advance if you are planning a visit.

 

DAILY FREE EVENTS

10.15am MEET A BABY CROCODILE

Get up close and personal with a baby crocodile.  Bring your camera and photograph the kids as they interact with this Aussie reptile!

10.40am ASIAN PRIMATE TALK 

Join us while we explain about the life of Siamangs and Macaques - their habits, what they eat and how they have helped enrich our lives.  

10.50am SUMATRAN TIGER TALK AND TREAT FEED

Watch the keeper feed our beautiful, but endangered, Sumatran Tigers.  They are normally quite shy and hard to see so this is your best opportunity each day to meet them. 

11.10am PYGMY HIPPO & MEERKAT TALK

Queensland's only Pygmy Hippopotamus and Queensland's first ever Meerkat colony are close neighbours and this is the best time of the day to watch their interactions with our keepers.

11.15am  GIRAFFE & CHEETAH TALK

This is the best time of the day to get a guaranteed look at our beautiful young Giraffe trio and their gorgeous baby. Our keeper will introduce you and tell you lots of interesting information about them while they enjoy a snack in their spacious paddock.

Our Cheetah facility is also in this area and our keeper is a mine of information about this beautiful species.

11.20am AFRICAN LIONS!  

Queensland's pride - featuring our normal coloured brown Lions plus our magnificent White Lions.  The only Lions in any Queensland zoo.

11.40am BABOON TREAT FEED

Queensland's largest Baboon troupe always has plenty of babies and their antics will delight you!

 

12.00pm LUNCH TIME! 

Bring along a picnic or cook up your favourite barbeque meal on one of our free gas BBQs. 

Or - you could let us do the cooking!  Every day we offer a freshly cooked good old Aussie sausage sizzle consisting of freshly barbecued local sausage, bread and your choice of sauces all for just $2.50.  You can order onion as an extra for just another 50c. 

We also sell pies, sausage rolls, some vegetarian and gluten free meals, cold drinks, ice cream, snacks and REAL coffee!

Meet a python up close and personal.  Bring your camera!!

1.30pm AFRICAN LION TALK & TREAT FEED

 

ZOO FACILITIES

Zoo facilities include EFTPOS, a kiosk selling pies, sausage rolls, crisps and twisties, ice creams, cold drinks and REAL COFFEE, a souvenir shop, free use of the zoo BBQs if you would prefer to cook your own meat, a shady picnic area and free car parking with ample room for caravans.

Feel free to bring your own picnic if you would prefer.

The zoo is wheelchair accessible but it should be acknowledged that this a rural zoo in savannah type grassland country.  Paths are fine gravel and can be challenging for a wheelchair, or a pram with small wheels, following rain events.  

New, modern toilets [including disabled toilets and a baby change room] have been added in 2021.

A large, covered dining area is now available, as well

The Darling Downs can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter.  Our paths are country paths.

In keeping with world's best practice for animals and families, the Darling Downs Zoo is an alcohol and smoke free zone.
