An impressive array of animals greets the visitor to the new Darling Downs Zoo. Our animals come to us from other zoos or wildlife parks, private breeders, aviculturalists and herpetologists. Some of them had been injured or orphaned animals that were deemed not suitable for release to the wild so they will now have a safe and happy life with us.

Already you can see brilliantly coloured Macaws from South America, snappy Crocodiles, mischievous Monkeys from South-east Asia, haughty Peruvian Llamas, tiny rainforest Marmosets, Ssssssssnakes galore, bouncing Baboons from Africa, two prides of mighty Lions, Green Iguanas from Brazil and exotic Parrots of all sizes and colours. Ducks, Lizards, Swans, Pelican, Kangaroos, Ostriches, Dingo, Emu, Waterbirds, Turtles and Tortoises are some more of the species to call the new zoo home.

Darling Downs Zoo is continually expanding!!

Many of our animals have shown their approval of their new home by breeding and raising families here. Lion cubs, baby Monkeys, Black Cockatoos, Llama, Bettong, Lizards, Lorikeets, Ostrich, Macaws, Alexandrines, Moustache Parrots and Eclectus Parrots have been among the early arrivals and many more births are expected as the zoo progresses. In 2008 we welcomed two sets of Marmoset births including one set of twins and in 2009 mum had twins again - twice! We have already had our first Marmoset birth for 2010!

2010 has already brought many babies...  Moustache parrots, Eclectus parrots, Macaws, a baby Marmoset, a baby camel which was rejected by its mum & so is being hand-raised!  On the 1st of October 2009 our Rhesus Macaque's welcomed a new member to the family with the birth of mum, Calpernia's, fourth baby!

Our crocodile, Emerald, has a new outdoor enclosure.  The peacocks are tempting fate thinking the enclosure was made for them!!
So far he has just ignored them.

Also the zoo has welcomed a young pair of Cape Barren Geese, Bush-Stone Curlews & Spur-wing Plovers from Hunter Valley Zoo in New South Wales.

After years of planning we are finally able to welcome our young White Lions to the zoo.  The male was born on 21/07/09 and the female on 06/08/09.  They have flown all the way from South Africa, had their required quarantine and arrived at the zoo on 18th February.  They are truly stunning!!
